About Eckstein Choir

Eckstein Choir, directed by Dr. Jean-Marie Kent, is a thriving program at Eckstein Middle School. Students come together to learn good vocal technique, music reading skills, and how to collaborate to produce excellent music. Repertoire varies from folk songs to world music to pop and jazz.

Beginning Choir is an all treble choir of students who are ready to gain experience singing at the Middle School level. Students may have sung at their elementary schools or in their church and are now excited about learning more about singing together.

Advanced Choir is a mixed-choir of students who have previous singing or music experience. All boys are placed in Advanced Choir in order to form a cohort of boys that receive extra small group training. Advanced Choir students are encouraged to learn music on their own, sing solos, and expand their knowledge of choral music.

Students sing in three full concerts, as well as at numerous assemblies and school events. Highlights for the year include a weekend retreat to Warm Beach, a tour for Advanced Choir, and an Awards Celebration at Wild Waves.

Feel free to attend one of our concerts and find out what we are all about. Questions? Contact Dr. Kent at jekent@seattleschools.org
